Without cutting holes in forwards skin, and you pull the jettison lever you will need to open canopy 2' to clear the roll bar on the top and sides and then move it back 2' to for the hinge bars to clear the forward skin before you can jettison it. Then it will look ugly and you have a water sealing problem. To allow true jettison you need to cut holes in forward top skin. When either crewmember initiates the command escape system, the canopy is ballistically jettisoned and each crewmember is ejected in a preset-time sequence.
